Just before the Holidays I was invited to speak at MidVentures' first DESIGN+DEVELOP workshop for entrepreneurs. The event was held at the Synch Tech center just outside the loop in Chicago's Greek town. I spoke for an hour about Obtiva's way of software development with specific focus on what works for startups. The talk will be posted online eventually, stay tuned for an announcement about that.
What I really want to talk about is the amazing entrepreneurial community here in Chicago. The conversations I have these days about startups inevitably veer towards Groupon, for good reason. It is the beacon of midwestern business savvy and technical ingenuity that highlights the awesome community we've had here for years. A community that has produced many notable successes, like threadless, and 37signals to name a few.
That is the community I have a chance to tap into whenever I attend a MidVentures event. The mixer after the DESIGN+DEVELOP workshop was exactly what I expected and tons of fun to boot. I met dozens of entrepreneurs, freelance developers and investors looking to build the next great business here in the Windy City. People like David Vinca of ePodClub.com, Corey thurman of uPonder.com, and BeiBei Que of TheLawerMarket.com among many others. That's what its all about - passionate people pursuing their dreams.
Obtiva's part in the story of a startup's success is our passion for building amazing software as the foundation of a great business. I met many brilliant entrepreneurs for the first time at this event and we'll be meeting with more than a few of them again to see if Obtiva can help launch them into the stratosphere. I know we are.
