EclipseWorld 2008 is a technical and user conference for the Eclipse platform. Held this year at the Hyatt Regency Reston, Reston, VA October 28-30, the conference will feature topics on everything Eclipse. Obtiva will be presenting four talks. Test-Driven Development for Java Rich Client Applications In this interactive class, you’ll pair-program with the instructor to develop an Eclipse RCP application. Not only that, you’ll participate in writing great unit tests and then making them pass. This class is very hands-on, but will include enough lecture to explore the whys, not just the hows. Topics will include TDD, JUnit, PDEUnit, MVP vs. MVC and UI testing strategies. Four Ways of Presenting Tabular Data In this advanced class, we’ll delve deep into Table, TableViewer, KTable and CompositeTable, exploring each component’s high-level APIs, contrast their performance characteristics, and look at common usage patterns, including master-detail, editable grid, data binding, filtering and sorting. If you’re interested in writing powerful and practical Java business applications, attend this class. Looking Good! Polishing Rich Client Applications Desktop applications are written by technical people. And, as the saying goes, “technical people don’t see color.” Unfortunately, our customers do see color, and thus polishing your Eclipse RCP application’s look and feel is absolutely essential, whether it’s going to be used internally or distributed commercially. On the bright side, these minor added touches will separate your product from the competition by ensuring it has the professional touch that people have come to expect. Practical Design Patterns for Rich Client Development Despite the passing of the 10th anniversary of the famous book “Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Design,” few developers understand how to apply design patterns to common development problems. Sadly, Eclipse Rich Client Platform development is no exception. This presentation will cover practical real-world applications of gang of four patterns and RCP specific patterns to improve the maintainability and extensibility of Eclipse rich client applications.
