7:30pm - 8:30pm MySQL Through Groupon Application Developer Lens by Michael Cerna
MySQL is the ubiquitous pack-leading RDBMS that we all love and loathe. Some believe that it can scale indefinitely with the proper application of sharding. Others believe that it can't scale for even mildly successful projects. Here at Groupon (where we are relatively obsessed with our Domain and representing it properly in language, software, data, and our brains), MySQL has been a stolid workhorse. This talk will discuss the ways that it helps and hinders us, the Rails ActiveRecord extensions that have bought us headroom with DB growth, and possible directions that we may take in the future.
