Dave Hoover to publish "Apprenticeship Patterns"

Dave spends the majority of his time as a coach and lead for the Craftsmanship Studio at Obtiva. His passion for learning and mentoring inspired the writing of Software Craftsmanship: From Apprentice to Journeyman. With co-author, Adewale Oshineye, Dave explores the patterns of successful apprenticeships. Over the past several years, Hoover and Oshineye have identified 40 patterns of behavior that pave the road from software apprentice to journeyman. “Apprenticeship is more than simply hiring entry level people, it is coupling an apprentice to a journeyman”, says Hoover. This approach maximizes learning opportunity, ultimately benefiting not only the organization as a whole but the individual, the team and the end users of the software.

The choice to publish with O’Reilly was made primarily because of their alignment with Dave’s vision for the community he wanted to develop around the book. As it is being written, the entire book can be found at http://softwarecraftsmanship.oreilly.com in a collaborative experiment that invites readers to provide input and drive content before the book goes to press.
